Latitudes was invited to curate the Spring 2008 Panorámica cycle for the Museo Tamayo Arte Contemporáneo [19°28' N, 99°09' W]. The project grows out of Latitudes' previous work on LAND, ART: A Cultural Ecology Handbook (2006), in looking at the legacy of Land Art in relation with contemporary practice and social and environmental ecology.
Borrowing its title from the writings of Robert Smithson, the programme revisits a selection of moving-image works that form part of the historical memory of Land Art, through and alongside more recent productions by contemporary artists. Indeed a concern with remoteness, together with the powerful allure of specific sites, weaves throughout the films’ itinerary, which includes the sewers of New York and Vienna (Gordon Matta-Clark, Hans Schabus), the deserts of California (Mario Garcia Torres), the mountains of the Basque country (Ibon Aranberri), and the beaches of Taveuni (Nikolaj Recke).

Latitudes fue invitada a presentar un programa para el ciclo Panorámica en el Museo Tamayo Arte Contemporáneo [19°28' N, 99°09' W]. El proyecto es una continuación del trabajo realizado en la publicación LAND, ART: A Cultural Ecology Handbook (2006), en el análisis del legado del Land Art en relación a la práctica contemporánea y la ecología socioambiental.
El programa, que toma prestado su título de los escritos de Robert Smithson, revisita una selección de filmes y videos que forman parte de la memoria histórica de Land Art, presentándolos en conjunción con trabajos de artistas contemporáneos.Una estaca en el lodo, un hoyo en la cinta plantea relaciones entre distintas obras a través del tiempo –como en el caso más evidente del “ataque” de Cyprien Gaillard al icónico Spiral Jetty (1970) de Robert Smithson– aunque en otros casos las conexiones son menos evidentes e incluso remotas. Existe sin embargo un interés común por lo lejano, lo aislado, así como por el trabajo en sitios específicos, a partir del cual se entreteje un itinerario fílmico que va desde las alcantarillas de Nueva York y Viena (Gordon Matta-Clark, Hans Schabus), hasta los desiertos de California (Mario García Torres), las montañas del País Vasco (Ibon Aranberri) y a las paradisiacas playas de Taveuni (Nikolaj Recke).
