En 2005 Max Andrews y Mariana Cánepa Luna fundaron Latitudes, una oficina curatorial afincada en Barcelona que trabaja a escala internacional en prácticas artísticas contemporáneas.
A lo largo de los últimos 19 años, nuestro enfoque de curatorial ha aspirado a conciliar escalas y temporalidades aparentemente contradictorias: lo particular con lo planetario, lo específico con lo vasto, decisiones personales con desafíos sistémicos complejos. Asimismo, las prácticas artísticas que más nos interesan navegan entre lo micro y lo macro, el margen y el centro, la historia local y la historia mundial. Nuestro actual foco de investigación se centra en las narrativas materiales, la biografía de los objetos y en arrojar una perspectiva mundial y una dimensión ecológica a las historias del arte.* 
Latitudes ha trabajado en varios formatos y situaciones, curando más de 50 proyectos expositivos, proyectos para el espacio público, performances, ciclos de film y video, y la dirección de proyectos editoriales, discursivos y pedagógicos.

El impacto medioambiental de Latitudes es pequeño, no obstante reconocemos que la mayoría proviene de los vuelos y de las prácticas de movilidad desproporcionadas del sector en el que trabajamos. Creemos que el arte y la cultura deben desempeñar su papel a la hora de implementar cambios ambiciosos, aplicar las mejores prácticas y dar un ejemplo positivo para posicionar la crisis climática en el centro del debate político y social.

Desde sus inicios en 2005, la práctica curatorial de Latitudes ha abordado de forma crítica las preocupaciones medioambientales en el arte contemporáneo. Desde 2023 somos Miembros Activos (individuales) de Gallery Climate Coalition, una coalición internacional de +1100 artistas, galerías, museos y profesionales de las artes visuales procedentes de +40 países que ofrece directrices de sostenibilidad medioambiental para el sector de las artes visuales. Asimismo, Latitudes es parte del Comité de GCC Spain, uno de los siete grupos internacionales de voluntarios semiautónomos que representan a la coalición a nivel nacional.

Como Miembros Activos nos comprometemos a medir y publicar anualmente nuestra huella de carbono para cumplir con el objetivo de la GCC de reducir nuestras emisiones de carbono en un mínimo de 50% para 2030 (en comparación con la base de referencia de 2019). En lugar de comprar compensaciones de carbono, y siguiendo las directrices ofrecidas por GCC, reservaremos un fondo anual para emplearlo en opciones de compra con bajas emisiones de carbono que de otro modo serían inasequibles. Nuestra intención es eliminar los viajes injustificados en avión cuando haya una ruta alternativa por tren o por mar que tarde menos de 7 horas, siguiendo el ejemplo de la política de movilidad adoptada por el Ajuntament de Barcelona en 2020.

Latitudes solicita a colaboradores que opten por opciones alternativas de tránsito con bajas emisiones de carbono, y que eviten el uso de plásticos u otros materiales de un solo uso cuando transporten mercancías o se organicen eventos. En consonancia con las directrices del GCC (así como la campaña RAF/Reduce Art Flights iniciada por Gustav Metzger), estas peticiones se verán reflejadas en acuerdos de colaboración y/o contratos. Nos comprometemos a predicar con el ejemplo y aplicar una estrategia medioambiental transversal en la planificación de exposiciones desde una fase temprana y hasta el final de la vida útil de los materiales que han dado forma al proyecto.

En nuestra vida personal, damos prioridad a las 5 R: Rechazar, Reducir, Reutilizar, Reaprovechar y Reciclar. No tenemos coche y viajamos mediante las redes de transporte público. Otras acciones prácticas que llevamos a cabo incluyen la donación periódica a organizaciones benéficas que ofrecen apoyo a comunidades de nuestro barrio (incluidas la Fundació Roure y El Trampolí). Y por último, aunque no por ello menos importante, tenemos cuentas corrientes en una banca ética que invierte de acuerdo con criterios medioambientales, sociales y de buena gobernanza.

Esta web funciona con energía sostenible. Según websitecarbon.com, produce 16,76kg de C02 equivalente al año, aproximadamente la cantidad de carbono que absorbería un árbol en el mismo tiempo, y consume 44kWh de energía (equivalente a recorrer 280km en un coche eléctrico).

Emisiones de carbono de Latitudes fueron de 17.4tCo2e en 2019 (año de base de referencia), 3.8tCo2e en 2022 y 1.5tCo2e en 2023.
