‘THE CREST OF A WAVE’ is a new project by Lawrence Weiner that will open at the Nivell Zero space of Fundació Suñol on 8 October, and continue until 15 November.
The project is divided in four parts – as a distributed ephemeral sculpture, a wall installation, a musical composition and an action
– together each asks what might constitute a public sculpture. Weiner's
new work triggers a chronicle of Spain’s mercantile and maritime
history, equestrian and commercial power, offering a biography of
materials and a testament to the transmutability of language. Further reading...

Latitudes has been working with Tue Greenfort since 2006, in the context of the Royal Society of Arts’
Arts & Ecology programme. Following a period of residency in London
in 2007, Greenfort's public commission will be presented in the capital
coinciding with his participation in Frieze Art Fair projects.
The project simulates a new system of public recycling or refuse disposal. It consists of three modified 1100 litre ‘Eurobins’
(street refuse containers) whose sides have been cut away and replaced
with transparent polycarbonate, thus making the contents visible to
everyone. Citizens become actors in a reflection on consumption and disposability,
recent municipal waste incentives, and the feasibility of recycling in
large cities at the very point when a decision is made to throw
something ‘away’. Further reading...
The location of the bins will not be disclosed; they
will be encountered and used without any expectation of them as
artworks. The project will be concluded with a small publication in the
late autumn.

Artissima 15's Video Lounge titled X, Y, etc.! will be an array of film and video artworks, a curatorial selection motivated by the methodological project of Charles Fort (1874–1932), the relentless researcher of paranormal and anomalous phenomena.
X, Y, etc.! participates in Fort’s universe by presenting a contrary borderland of knowns and unknowns, cynicism and speculation, science and fiction. Here everything is anomalous and underdetermined. Art and reality are far more mysterious, complex and nuanced than we realise. Further reading...

 Maasvlakte lighthouse and EON Power station Artistic programme around Maasvlakte 2, Port of Rotterdam, The Netherlands, 2009
The Port of Rotterdam Authority and the Foundation for Art and Public Space (SKOR), Amsterdam, has invited Latitudes to generate a major programme of artists' projects alongside the contruction of Maasvlakte 2,
an extension to Europe's largest port and industrial area which will be
realised between 2008 and 2013 by reclaming land from the sea. The new
port will be increased by 20% in area and triple its container capacity.
Throughout 2009 a cluster of international and local artists
will develop projects in and around the spatial contexts of the port
and this ‘tabala rasa’, where land meets sea. The programme will explore
the material, historical, artistic, architectural, political, social,
ecological pasts, presents and futures of the development as well as the
ripe contexts of trade and energy. |

‘LA CRESTA DE UNA OLA’, el nuevo proyecto de Lawrence Weiner, inaugurará en el Nivell Zero de la Fundació Suñol el 8 Octubre, y permanecerá abierto al público hasta el 15 de Noviembre.
El proyecto se estructura en cuatro partes – como una escultura efímera distribuida, una instalación sobre pared, una pieza musical y una acción.
Cada parte pretende cuestionar qué constituye o define hoy una
escultura pública. La nueva obra de Weiner desencadena una crónica
mercantil y marítima, ecuestre y comercial española entorno a la

Latitudes ha trabajado con el artistas danés Tue Greenfort desde el 2006, en el contexto del programa Arts & Ecology de la Royal Society of Arts,
Londres. Siguiendo a un período en residencia en la capital inglesa
durante el 2007, el encargo público de Greenfort se presentará
coincidiendo con su participación en Frieze Art Fair projects.
El proyecto simula un nuevo sistema de reciclaje público. Consiste en tres 1100 litros 'Eurobins'
(containers de basura) cuyos lados han sido reemplazados por
policarbonato transparente, haciendo que su contenido sea visto por
todos los usuarios. Los ciudadanos se convierten así en actores
participantes en la reflexión sobre el consumo y la eliminación de
deshechos, de los recientes incentivos municipales para el reciclaje y

El emplazamiento de los containers no será desvelado,
la intención es que se encuentren y se usen sin expectación alguna
sobre su estatus artístico. Durante el otoño se presentará una pequeña publicación que concluirá el proyecto.

El Video Lounge 2008 titulado 'X, Y, etc.!'
es una selección curatorial de films y videos motivada por el proyecto
metodológico de Charles Fort (1874–1932), el incansable investigador de
fenómenos paranormales y anómalos.
X, Y, etc.! participa en el universo de Fort mediante la exploración de una zona fronteriza de incógnitas, de cinismo y especulación, ciencia y ficción. Aquí todo es normal e inderdeterminado. Faro de Maasvlakte y central eléctrica de EON Programa artístico entorno al Maasvlakte 2, Puerto de Rotterdam, Holanda, 2009
La Autoridad del Puerto de Rotterdam y la Foundation for Art and Public Space (SKOR), en Amsterdam, ha invitado a Latitudes a generar un ambicioso programa de proyectos artísticos entorno la construcción del Maasvlakte 2
(MV2), la extensión de la zona portuaria e industrial más extensa de
Europa que se realizará entre el 2008 y 2013 robándole terreno al mar.
El puerto aumentará su espacio en un 20% y triplicará su capacidad de
almacenaje de contenedores.
A lo largo del 2009 un grupo de artistas locales e internacionales
desarrollarán proyectos entorno al contexto espacial del puerto: una
‘tabala rasa’ donde la tierra se une con el mar. El programa explorará
su pasado, presente y futuro ecológico, histórico, artístico,
arquitectónico, político y social de esta zona, así como las materias
importadas y exportadas, el comercio y la energía que se generan en MV2. |
